Kano has been using Raspberry Pi for a long time to offer computers that we could do ourselves, but now they have decided to take an important step by partnering with Microsoft to present the Kano PC, the Windows 10 computer that we can build at home.
It has an 11.6-inch touch screen, an Intel Atom x5-Z8350 1.44 GHz processor, quad-core, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, which can be updated through a microSD slot.
As for ports, it has HDMI, two USB ports, one 2.0 and another 3.0, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The result is a kind of child-proof laptop, and they promise that the parts are replaceable, making it easy to maintain.
To work with Windows they had to obtain licenses, perform tests, solve privacy and parental control problems … several tasks to be an approved Windows partner. Until now they were used to the world linux with its Kano OS, an operating system compatible with Raspberry Pi based on Raspbian OS, but now things have changed.
The new Kano runs Windows 10 in «S Mode», an optimized version that only allows Microsoft Store applications. It will run the Office suite, and is designed for use in schools.
They have even created an app that explains how computers work, teaching what happens when someone touches a key, or when they use the microphone.
The Kano PC is available for pre-order now for $ 299.99 through Kano.me and Microsoft Store. It will be sent and will also be available through physical stores in the USA. United States, Canada and the United Kingdom on October 21.
